Thomas & Laurie: 5-31-10 Quit Smoking Update
This couple from Wisconsin is winning. The funny thing is Thomas and Laurie and Thomas seem to act like they’re losing. Such is the frustration of many previous attempts to quit smoking.
Thomas and Laurie have each been smoking a pack or more a day for a combined 50 years. They’ve just reached the two week milestone on ModeraXL. During our interview with Laurie, she shared their results.
Before ModeraXL: Each smoked one pack of cigarettes a day.
2 Weeks Later: Each is smoking only about 3 cigarettes a day.
“We’re trying. We really want to quit,? says Laurie. “It’s a little crutch. We’re getting there. We are both doing pretty good during our work days and work week. We get by without smoking in the morning. But we both smoke a few cigarettes at night.
For me at work, I’m getting through the long days looking forward to that cigarette at night. It’s like a treat to get through the workday. I’m now down to 3 cigarettes per night during the week. My husband is down to smoking between 3 and 5 a night.?
The couple says they got right into a routine with ModeraXL that meets their work schedules. “ We drink one early in the morning, and then have another in the afternoon.?
Their biggest challenge in quitting smoking with ModeraXL has been the times away from work when they have more free time on their hands. Laurie admits, “Weekends a little more rough. But it’s much better than when we started. On the weekends, with driving and socializing, we are both smoking at least 5 but no more than 10 cigarettes a day. I think most of the time it’s just out of habit. Sometimes it really is a conscious habit. In those moments I know I shouldn’t smoke. But I feel like what the heck I’m doing it.?
Laurie adds, “I’m not even really craving smoking. The cravings are definitely much less taking ModeraXL. We’re sticking together. We’ll keep trying to cut back. We’re determined to quit smoking. And this time we’re going to do it.?

Keep up the good work, and for sure don’t give up before the magic happens.
Try this. Since you are down to a minimal amount of cigarettes during the evenings, try having a 3rd Modera at night a couple of hours before bed when you are relaxing from your day. Even try putting Modera over ice with a lime. Makes for a good evening drink. Because your systems are used to Modera by now, it should actually help you to sleep.
